How to make a Colour Wheel

Colour is the most important thing to my work. I think colour is everything! It is the difference between, liking something and LOVING something. The colour wheel is a great resource to have no matter what creative career you are in. The colour wheel is a great way of understanding colour. You can easily buy a colour wheel in any art supplies shop but, making your own helps you put mixing colours and colour relationships into practice.

Let’s start off with the basics

PRIMARY COLOURS

The three Primary colours are Red, Blue and Yellow. These three colours can be mixed to create any different colours but no colours mixed together can create these.

SECONDARY COLOURS

Secondary colours are when you mix two primary colours together

Red + Blue= Purple

Red + Yellow = Orange

Blue + Yellow=  Green

TERTIARY COLOURS

A tertiary colour is made by mixing a primary and a secondary colour together
